There is something to be said about the universally daunting task of beginning any piece of writing--particularly the first of a series. I think the pressure comes from having to set the direction for which the rest of my blog will go. Over time, I find it becomes easier having generated a creative momentum as well as established the context of my thoughts.
I'm finding that my biggest challenges as a writer are simplicity and clarity. I am annoyingly complicated and abstract in my thinking. I'm also obsessed with accuracy of expression and try too often to control what is lost between author’s intent and reader’s interpretation.
So in an attempt to be minimalist, it is my new goal to allow the truth and beauty of the people, circumstances, and ideas I am writing about to bear witness for themselves. Ultimately, I see poignant writing not as the uniqueness of an individual incident but the commonality in human experience.
I promise my future entries won't be as dry..
